Rwanda is well known as the "Land of a Thousand Hills". The weavers living near Volcanoes Parc designed this intricate pattern as a tribute to the many villages perched high upon the lush hills. This extra large fair trade basket of approximately 16" is made of raffia tightly woven over bundled sweet grass, available in green/natural color scheme.

About the Project: These fair trade baskets are woven by the women of the Kinigi Weavers Association, in a small village near Volcanoes National Park. Each basket is hand-crafted from sisal and consists of literally hundreds of stitches. The patterns of these baskets tell ancient stories and now stand as symbols of peace and reconciliation in a country rebuilding itself after the genocide.
