Happy Monday!

I’ve always been a big fan of TOMS shoes, as I’m sure many of you are. That’s why I was so excited when I heard they just launched a brand-new bag collection! From bright purses to striped travel bags to free-spirited backpacks, there’s something for everyone in the bunch.

The travel bug always hits me hard in the Spring, so it’s not easy to resist shopping online for new fun ways to cart my stuff around airports (and hopefully on to sandy beaches!)

Toms2(via)

The best part about the collection is, of course, the lives it changes. This is why I love TOMS and it’s great to see them getting even more creative with their giving! When you purchase a bag from the new collection, you’re helping to support a safe birth and delivery for mothers and babies across the world. From the TOMS Website:

Safe Births

Infection is a leading cause of death for mothers and newborns worldwide. By providing clean birth conditions and skilled attendants, nearly half a million of lives can be saved. TOMS Bags purchases support our Giving Partners in delivering the vital materials and training needed to help provide a safer birth, regardless of the facility.

(Source: UNFPA & Every Newborn Action Plan, 2014)

What your purchase supports:

  1. Delivery of safe birth kits
  2. Training for skilled birth attendants
  3. Healthy delivery for new born baby and mom

With the training and proper materials to provide a safe delivery, mothers are up to 80% less likely to develop an infection and almost half of newborn deaths can be prevented. (Source: UNFPA, 2015)

It’s wonderful to see a huge company like TOMS highlighting the simple fixes that can be made to make birthing conditions safer around the world. So often, I know I personally take healthcare for granted and wish everyone could say the same.

Let’s get a glimpse of the gorgeous designs!

TOMS3Saffron Ikat Travel Duffel

TOMS4Chili Chevron Canvas Reef Drawstring

TOMS5Natural Chevron Straw Islander Tote

Are you excited about the new TOMS collection? You can check out the rest of the bags here!

I have some really exciting news to share with you today!

Even though the fair trade movement has gained so much steam over the past few years, it’s still been a little difficult to find fun, fashionable fair trade clothing items. They haven’t seemed to be as plentiful as fair trade jewelry and accessories. But happily, that is no longer the case—introducing our brand new collaboration with ethical clothing company Passion Lilie!

passionlilie7

PassionLilie5PassionLilie4PassionLilie3PassionLilie2

We will begin carrying items from this fair trade, high-quality clothing line this month. From the ladies at Passion Lilie themselves:

Passion Lilie began with a desire to change the fashion industry, so that ethical fashion is affordable and accessible for everyone. We are a New Orleans based women’s fair trade clothing line that gives individuals, mainly women, in remote villages a unique opportunity to live a dignified life.

Mission:

Our mission is to empower artisans across the world by creating dignified employment opportunities that give fair wages and safe and healthy working conditions. We believe that these positive job opportunities lead to sustainable societies and a better world.

By purchasing fair trade garments, you are helping to reverse the cycle of poverty and to improve the world you live in. And the best part is that neither Passion Lilie nor our artisans are asking for a penny of your charity. We just want you to make a conscious purchase when you go to buy your next outfit.

Our product is for those who want to make a global impact while looking fashionable!

We are committed to:

  • Supporting fair wages, and safe and healthy working condition
  • Preserving the environment through the use of natural dyes and energy and water reduction in the production process
  • Creating stylish and affordable women’s clothing
  • Revitalizing ancient artisanal dyeing techniques
  • Providing new opportunities for community development

Not only does the company have a wonderful mission and focus, but the designs and patterns of their items are whimsical and beautiful. Check out a few of my favorite pieces below:

PicMonkey Collage 2
That’s the Bahia Dress, Fleur de Lis Scarf in White, and Breton Shirt in Blue. Aren’t they perfect for Spring?

You can purchase the full line of products from our Website here, but before you go on a buying spree, why not try to win your fave item? Over the course of this month, Seven Hopes is doing a Pin It to Win It contest with our Passion Lilie products, and you’re invited!

PassionLilie1During the entire month of February, pin on Pinterest as many Passion Lilie products from 7 Hopes as you would like with the hashtags #7hopesunited, #pinittowinit, and #ethicalfashion. We will choose one winner on March 1st, 2015, to receive the Passion Lilie product of their choice!

Are you excited about our new collaboration? Good luck pinning! :)

XO,

Casey

If August in your house is accompanied by either “I’m so bored and I can’t wait to get out of here!” or, “How can it be time again already?!” you know it’s back-to-school month. But remind those less-enthusiastic little people of yours that it isn’t all bad—going back to school means a little wardrobe refresh if nothing else! If you have daughters they probably won’t fight you on this one. :)

This Fall, how about incorporating some fair trade styles into your shopping? It’s a great way to remind your kids that in every decision they make, they have the opportunity to help other children and spread love across the oceans. Sometimes we can think of back-to-school shopping as a chore, but why not view it as a fun way to help your kids express their style while teaching them that caring for others can be lived out in unexpected ways?

Here are a few of my fave back-to-school styles from Seven Hopes and from some of our amazing fair trade and ethical friends! See below for more info on our wonderful buddies who create these fun products! :)

About TOMS:
In 2006, American traveler Blake Mycoskie befriended children in a village in Argentina and found they had no shoes to protect their feet. Wanting to help, he created TOMS®, a company that would match every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need. One for One.

Realizing this movement could serve other basic needs, TOMS® Eyewear was launched. With every pair purchased, TOMS® will help give sight to a person in need. One for One.

About FashionABLE:
The fashionABLE mission is to create sustainable business for Africans so they aren’t dependent upon charity, but instead earn the dignity of a job. We offer opportunity to everyone, with a primary focus on empowering women. When we invest in a woman, statistics demonstrate that she will have a life-changing impact on her family and community… and herself.

About
Headbands of Hope:
For every headband purchased, one is given to a girl with cancer and $1 is donated to fund life-saving childhood cancer research. Since  Headbands of Hope was launched in April 2012, they’ve donated over 20,000 headbands to girls who deserve them. They’ve even started a boys line of buffs!

About
Hiptipico:
Hiptipico’s mission is to support the creativity, ingenuity and passion of local artists in Guatemala. Preserving Mayan culture and traditional customs is essential to Hiptipico’s brand. Reinvesting profits into women’s cooperatives, family shops and Mayan handicrafters, Hiptipico naturally energizes the local economy while creating access to foreign markets.

Selling 100% authentic high quality merchandize, customers directly receive artisan-level products.

About Krochet Kids
:
Krochet Kids works with highly vulnerable women who live in poverty stricken regions of the world. Through a unique model, Krochet Kids is empowering the women of Northern Uganda and Peru with the assets, skills, and knowledge to lift themselves and their families out of poverty. The result is long lasting and sustainable change.

About EbenGroup
:
Ebenezer means “rock of help.” As part of Ebenezer Group (EbenGroup), they want to be just that, help. For every durable rucksack sold, they give a backpack full of school supplies away to a child in need in the regions in which they work. In addition, they allocate 10% of the profits to building schools.  A staggering amount of children in developing countries drop out of school because they do not have the necessary school supplies.

About WeWood
:
The brainchild of an Italian watch lover and two eco-smart entrepreneurs, WEWOOD fashions wooden timepieces from mostly scrap-wood and uses state-of-the-art Miyota movements for the guts, a hybrid of technology and nature resulting in a unique watch that’s both handsome and earth friendly.

The first timepiece was designed in Florence, Italy (2010) and with the widespread craving for newstalgia and eco-friendly ethos, WEWOOD hit the scene as the avant-garde approach to sophisticated sustainability. Later that year, WEWOOD opened a branch in Los Angeles and teamed up with tree-planting-partners ‘American Forests’ and ‘Trees For The Future’.

Enjoy back-to-school month!

Happy Almost-July, my friends!

Let’s talk about Independence Day today. Just in case you were thinking it was all about celebrating ‘Merica, enjoying family and the great outdoors, or maybe, well, hot dogs (did I just expose one of your innermost thoughts there?), allow me to enlighten you: it’s not. It’s all about the fashion! Fair trade fashion, that is.

july4th

We love holidays around here, and July 4th is no exception. If you’re still contemplating what to wear to your day at the beach or backyard BBQ, let us help show you the way. And you can wear these fun finds all summer long!

Here are a few of my fave reds, whites and blues from Seven Hopes United:

PicMonkey Collage

Clockwise from the top left, we’ve got:

1. Sseko Sandals in Navy
2. Tagua Chip Earrings in Soft Gray
3. 31BITS Cascade Necklace in White
4. Recycled Plastic Shoulder Bag in Navy and White

All kidding aside, we know that the 4th of July is a wonderful time to celebrate life with loved ones and give thanks for the land of the free and the home of the brave. And we can remember that through purchasing fair trade items as opposed to mass-produced, we are taking an active part in helping foster independence for our brothers and sisters throughout the world. Olga Moran and Cesar Yamberia, our artisans in Ecuador who hand-craft the beautiful necklace you see above, state: ”Our life has been difficult, but our children will have a better future, thanks to the people like you who buy our jewelry.” They receive fair wages for their labor and have access to nonprofit services, such as scholarships and training programs, that previously would not have been available to them. Let’s make it a goal as we enjoy time with our own children this summer to actively invest in the future of children and families across the globe!

Casey

The two columns look a lot alike, right? Bright, relaxed and bohemian—which happen to be three of my favorite words when it comes to summer! Tommy Bahama embodies the spirit of sunny beach livin, but the price tag isn’t quite as sunny. So here I highlighted with pushpins our Seven Hopes items—ethically produced pieces that help out your wallet AND empower women and children in third-world countries!

Sometimes when you’re searching out fair trade products, what you find is more understated and simple. But not so with these beauties! And as each item is handmade, as opposed to mass produced, you get intricate detail and a beautiful uniqueness to every piece!

Click the links below to be transported to the Seven Hopes products above and to your own sunny fair trade paradise! :)

Happy Friday and Happy Spring! :)

When a new month rolls around, I like to empty out some space in my cabinets, my heart and my mind. You too? It’s so nice to start the Spring season in a fresh new mindset and grab some fun beauty essentials to go with it. :) This month, instead of hopping on Amazon or heading to Target to get my “me” shopping in, I’m logging right onto SevenHopesUnited.com!

I’m so happy the fair trade movement continues to build, and more and more people across the country are showing excitement for ethically made and sourced products. When the term “fair trade” comes up, sometimes people just think coffee or chocolate. And while those ar wonderful products that can support the fair trade movement, today we’re going to think out of the box. I’ll highlight some of my favorite ethical products to feed your body, soul and home! Care to take a peek?

For your Body:
Dreambean Essentials Gift Set: Ok, so this one says “gift set,” it’s true. But who made up the rule you can’t give gifts to yourself? Sorry to whoever did, but I’m breaking it.

7hopes1

Bali-Made Flower Soaps: These moisturizing, handmade soaps are wrapped in soft, hand-screened cotton fabric, and produced by a small cooperative of artisan soap makers and organic farmers in the high mountains of Bali. Smell extra sweet this month!

7hopes3

For Your Soul:

31 BITS Sunday Frill Necklace: Can a necklace be good for the soul? I think any woman who appreciates jewelry would give this an amen. Made in Uganda, this beautiful piece is a new staff favorite.

7Hopes 7

Bali Green Kimono Robe: Cuddle up in this cozy, soft robe and dream the morning away. Sometimes, an hour or two in your robe is the best way to start the day.

7hopes8

For Your Home:

Spiral Sun Hatian Wall Art: This Spiral Sun is sure to bring joy to your home, just as your purchase brings joy to the artist, Brutal Michel’s family. Each piece of art is cut and shaped by hand from a 55-gallon recycled metal drum. The finished design is coated with a protective finish so that it can be hung indoors or outdoors.

7hopes5

Tree of Life Wall Tapestry: Feed your artistic spirit when you hang this beauty on your wall.  Traditionally painted on mud walls, villagers in India adapt the time-honored style of Mandana folk art to create this appliqued tapestry. The entire artwork is done by using a single piece of fabric using small hand stitches.

7HOPES6
What are your giving to your body, soul and home this month? Let me know in the comments! :)

Casey
